Room Service
FREE MILK AND SPARKLING WATER
There is a fridge in the entrance hall that is stocked with sparkling water and milk. Water from the tap in Edinburgh is of high quality and can be drunk without any risk. Feel free to help yourself to sparkling water and milk in the fridge or on the table beside the fridge. There is no restriction on how much you would like to use but, perhaps, first finish a bottle of sparkling water before taking another.
WIFI AND CHROMECASTING
a) Internet connection
The code is in the folder in your room or in the frame beside the door or, for rooms 3 and 4, on the landing.
b) TELEVISION AND CHANNELS
In addition to access to Netflix etc. it is possible to chromecast to the television. There is a sign beside the television giving instructions on how to set the television in your room so that you can use your phone to access the films or programmes that you wish. It is probably better if you already know how to chromecast from your phone!
Not infrequently, the previous guests have unplugged something, preventing the television from functioning. Do not hesitate to contact us if ever you have a problem.
CHANGING LINEN AND EMPTYING BINS
Linen will only be changed on request. Feel free to message us TO REQUEST A CHANGE OF BEDCLOTHES or THAT WE REFRESH YOUR ROOM AND EMPTY THE BINS whenever you would like.
If not, if your bins begin to overflow, please leave them in the front entrance area beside the door and we will dispose of the rubbish.
Freshly laundered towels will be supplied automatically after every third day. Could we request that you leave your used towels outside your room door using the plastic bag in which we supplied the new towels with. This means that we can get them laundered and recycle them.
ROOM SET UP, HAIRDRYER AND HEATING
Beds
In rooms 1, 3 and 4, feel free to push the beds together if it suits you.
Heating
Summer: 7.30 to 9.30 and then 19.30 to 23.30
We do not heat the rooms, when most usually, there is no one in them. If you are in your room and you would like us to turn on the central heating, just message us. It is warmer (and cheaper) for us to turn on the central heating.
Iron and Hairdryer
There is an iron and a hairdryer in your room. Feel free to request an ironing board if you need one. So as to be able to use either where it is most convenient for you in the room or rooms you are in, there is an extension lead (with the hairdryer).
How to Work the Lock.
If you are not familiar with how Yale locks function: you can only lock the door if the locking mechanism is able to move in and out. Find the small button on the lock and ensure it is in the right position for the locking mechanism to move (it is either up or down depending in which direction the lock has been installed). If it is possible to press the lock in and out with your finger, then you will be able to lock and unlock the door. Here is a video:
HOW TO REGULATE WATER TEMPERATURE
To regulate the water temperature, turn the hot and cold knob clockwise (towards C). This is the middle knob. Turn it until there is only cold water coming out. Then move the knob slowly anticlockwise (towards H) until you have the desired temperature. The top knob is for choosing a shower and, in the deluxe double the bottom knob is for running a bath.
Could we request that you do not run baths between 8 and 10 in the morning as there will not be enough water for the other 12 people in the house. Feel free to have a shower at any time or a bath after 10 in the morning ….
